Your grocery list
A weekly scenario
Maya just moved into her first apartment. She switched from a small corner store to a large Kroger two blocks away. The first three trips took 45 minutes each because she kept backtracking for eggs, bread, and frozen vegetables.
She opened AisleMinder, picked "Kroger / Fred Meyer," and entered her usual 14 items. She dragged the bakery aisle to the top because she always walks past the entrance first. Then she clicked "Suggest aisle order" and printed the result.
Her next trip took 22 minutes. She marked two changes on the printed map (the store moved yogurt from aisle 4 to aisle 6) and updated the saved layout. Now she reprints a fresh copy once a month and keeps a photo on her phone for quick checks.
Before AisleMinder
- Wandered the whole store for 45 minutes
- Forgot eggs and dish soap twice a week
- Impulse-bought snacks near the registers
- Had to make a second trip for brown rice
After AisleMinder
- Finished the trip in 22 minutes
- Checked the printed route at each aisle
- Skipped the snack aisle on purpose
- Shared the link with her roommate
Common mistakes and fixes
- Grouping items by recipe instead of aisle. A stir-fry recipe might send you to produce, then frozen, then dry goods. Sort by aisle first, then group recipes on paper after you get home.
- Forgetting the store entrance order. Most stores put produce first and frozen last. If your store is different, drag the aisles to match your real walk.
- Using the wrong chain preset. A Kroger layout may not match your local store. Walk the aisles once with your printed map and mark any swaps.
- Not updating after a rearrangement. Stores move items a few times a year. If you notice a change, open your saved store and edit the aisle order before your next trip.
- Trying to memorize a long list. A printed route or a screenshot is faster than holding 20 items in your head. Keep a small notepad in your bag for quick checks.
Assumptions and limits
This planner uses common aisle orders for each chain. Your local store may place dairy on the left wall instead of the back wall, or put frozen pizza in a center aisle. Treat the first printed map as a draft. Walk the store once, mark changes, and save the updated version.
Your lists and store layouts stay in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server. If you clear your browser data, your saved stores disappear, so keep a printed copy or export a share link.
Troubleshooting
- My share link shows a blank page. The link only stores your items and aisle order. If you used a custom store name, make sure the link copied fully from the address bar.
- My printed map looks cut off. Use landscape orientation in your print dialog and set margins to minimum. The print layout hides the header and buttons.
- I switched stores and my old list looks wrong. Create a new saved store for the new location. Keep the old one if you visit that store again.
- I want to share my map with someone who does not use this page. Print it or export a plain text version using the print button and "Save as PDF."
What to double-check before you shop
- Does the store still stock the item you need? Some stores discontinue brands without notice.
- Are any aisles closed for restocking? A printed route helps you skip blocked aisles quickly.
- Do you need a cart or just a basket? A long route with heavy items may require a cart even for a short list.
- Is the store busy? A fixed route helps you stay focused when the aisles are crowded.
